There has been a debate on whether CBSE or IB is the best curriculum for students. Let's go through the comparison between both the education boards for a better understanding.
National vs. International Standards
The CBSE board of education sets the path for many students to appear for competitive examinations conducted within the country. It is the base upon which students can choose to define their careers in the same country.
The IB board of education taught in Singapore IB Schools, on the other hand, is recognised worldwide. It sets the path for students to study, as well as pursue careers, in foreign countries.
Theoretical vs. Practical Approach
CBSE does have practical work as part of its curriculum. However, the focus remains on theoretical learning, with children having to follow a recommended set of textbooks.
The IB board, however, emphasise concept-based learning techniques rather than theoretical ones. Students are encouraged to understand concepts in the class and then use a range of resources, apart from textbooks, to learn the same concepts in detail. Enquiry based learning is encouraged with the new international school Singapore not adhering to prescribed textbooks.
Pre-set vs. Balanced Programme
The CBSE board of education follows a set pattern where theory takes first place while physical education and other co-curricular activities, although a part of the curriculum, are not given preference.
The IB board of education focuses on a balanced programme that gives equal importance to subjects from varying disciplines like art, sports, music, business administration, etc. The subjects are classified into different groups and students can pick the ones they prefer from these options. Thus, IB is far better than CBSE, allowing a better understanding of subjects and exposure to international standards.
